Overflowing the banks

As often happens during heavy rains, portions of Newport’s Big Creek Park were inundated by water Thursday, fed by an overflowing Jeffries Creek (background) just before it flows into Big Creek.  More than 2.5 inches of rain had been recorded as of press time on Thursday – this coming on the heels of 1.4 inches of rainfall on Wednesday. Forecasters predicted that the rain and heavy winds that struck the coast mid-week will turn to showers Friday and through the weekend.
