Posted: Tuesday, Dec 18th, 2012

Norman William ‘Willy’ Axon
Norman William “Willy” Axon, 51, of Newport, Ore., died Dec. 14, 2012.

He was born Sept. 20, 1961. He grew up in Oregon and Washington, and attended schools in Longview, Wash., graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1980.

He enjoyed fishing at Lake Sacajawea in Longview as he was growing up. He took that love of fishing to the beach. Willy was a “hands-on” guy who loved the sea and working on fishing boats. He moved to Ilwaco, Wash. to work on fishing boats shortly after high school, and he moved to Newport when he was in his mid 20s. It was Newport he called home. He worked for several captains, also tried his hand at crabbing, and even gave Alaska fishing a try.

His son, Alex, was born in 2000 and has the same distinctive red hair, and easy-going sense of humor.

He was different things to those who knew him – a father, son, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and friend. To all of them he will be missed. Rest well Willy.

He was preceded in death by his father Norman; and sister Lisa.

He is survived by his son, Alex; his mother, Carylne Axon of Vancouver, Wash.; and sister Jammie Axon of Longview.

A wake service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Bay Haven Inn, 608 SW Bay Blvd. in Newport.
