‘Celebrate! Festive Times’ on display at historical society

A panel of Christmas postcards and historic facts is on display now through Dec. 15 at the Burrows House Museum of the Lincoln County Historical Society, 545 SW Ninth St. in Newport.

“Stop by to see the display and the Burrows House decorated for the holiday,” said Steve Wyatt, executive director of the society, “and take in a little of the history of Christmas in the world and in Lincoln County.”

Early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the dark of winter, many during the winter solstice when they could look forward to more hours of daylight. The winter celebrations of old often were unruly.
