DEPOE BAY - The driver of a southbound tractor-trailer rig that smashed through a Highway 101 guardrail and rolled down the side of Cape Foulweather on Tuesday has been cited for careless driving.

Theo Kohlasch, 45, of Portland, was ticketed after an investigation by Oregon State Police Sr. Trooper Bryan Fitch determined that she lost control of a Freightliner truck pulling a semi-trailer while negotiating a curve at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, near milepost 130 two miles south of Depoe Bay.

Kohlasch was able to extricate herself from the cab of the vehicle and was transported to by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, where she was treated for minor injuries.

The highway was closed periodically Tuesday as workers mopped-up a diesel spill and towed the heavily damaged truck and trailer to the roadway. Responding to the accident were members of the Depoe Bay Fire District and Newport Fire Department.
