George Roland

George James Roland, 62, of Gleneden Beach, Ore., died of heart disease on Nov. 17, 2012 at his home.

He was born April 25, 1950 to Dale Roland and Betty Roland (Medley) in Tillamook, Ore. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Ore.

George owned and operated Pioneer Building Maintenance.

During his life, George lived in Oregon, New York and Nevada. He spent 27 years in McMinnville, Ore., and he lived the last two years in Gleneden Beach.

He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

George loved to help others, especially the elderly or those who had experienced misfortune. He often was the first to arrive to assist those who needed a hand. George especially loved helping his mom, working on special projects at the family home.

He enjoyed camping with friends and family and had traveled through much of the U.S., and some in Canada and Mexico. His other interests included daily Bible reading, photography and rock tumbling. George engaged in volunteer work locally, and even as a young man did so in New York for four years. He was very social, a regular fixture at gatherings.

As George neared retirement, he moved to the coast so that he could help a friend and enjoy daily walks on the beach, beachcombing, and the beauty of the ocean.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Roland; and brother, Delbert Roland.

He is survived by his daughter, Janai; mother, Betty Roland of Yamhill; his wife; four stepchildren; siblings, Linda Roland of Yamhill, Melvin Roland of Forest Grove, Walter Roland of Eugene, Loretta Roland of Yamhill, Kenny Roland of Hillsboro, David Roland of Dallas, Texas and Laureen Garcia of Sparks, Nev.; granddaughter, Sage; and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in McMinnville.

Affordable Burial and Cremation is handling arrangements.
