Lighted Boat Parade stokes charity, Bayfront businesses

Thousands of lights will adorn dozens of boats as they make their large, leisurely loop around Yaquina Bay, from the U.S. Coast Guard station to the Embarcadero Resort and back during the annual Newport Lighted Boat Parade. The annual Newport Lighted Boat Parade, a spectacular procession of gaily-bedecked pleasure craft, fishing boats and Coast Guard search and rescue vessels, will be joined this year by the NOAA Pacific Fleet beginning at 5 p.m. this Saturday along the Bayfront.

The addition of ocean-going research ships to the colorful Christmastime spectacle has elevated the event as the undisputed king of holiday kickoffs at the Oregon coast, a gratifying surprise for one of its co-founders who remembers the parade’s humble, windswept beginnings.
