Schools plan Native American Heritage Month activities

To recognize the influence of American Indians in this community, the Lincoln County School District Board of Directors has proclaimed the month of November as “Native American Heritage Month.” LCSD schools will explore Native traditions in a variety of ways during November.

Four classes from Oceanlake Elementary and Taft Elementary will go on a field trip to Siletz today (Wednesday) where they will learn about tribal government structure, visit the Lhuuke Illahee Fish Hatchery on tribal grounds, share lunch with Siletz tribal elders, and end their trip at the Siletz dance house with Bud Lane sharing Siletz history and songs.
