Modified: Tuesday, Nov 6th, 2012

Audrey L. Yakes
Audrey L. Yakes, 83, of Waldport, Ore., died Oct. 22, 2012.

She was born May 16, 1929 to Edna and Harley Lanphere in Eau Claire, Wis. She had three brothers, Gary, Ken and Darrel, and three sisters, Nola, Dona and Nadine.

She and her husband, Lester “Les,” made their homes in Eau Claire, Moline, Ill., Renton, Va., West Linn, Oregon City, Dayton, Sheridan and Waldport. They dedicated their lives to their three children, Alan Yakes, Ronda (Yakes) Humbird and Barbara (Yakes) Michaud. She was a devoted Mormon and spent her time between work and home, teaching Sunday school, mission work and fellowship with others. Always ready to help others, she took great pride in helping those who were in need.

Active throughout her life, she worked as a butcher, assembly line finishing technician, gas station owner and with her husband in commercial fishing. In 2005, she took her final mission for the church, which sent her to Little Rock, Ark. At the age of 79, she began helping the elderly in and around Waldport.

She enjoyed bowling, archery, fishing and hunting with her husband, Les, and in her spare time, she was an excellent gardener and a craftsman in knitting, crocheting and various crafts. She and her cohorts, Jeanie Archer and Ina Olin, were the Waldport terrors of local garage sales and community markets. Full of life until the end, she showered her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with unabridged and limitless love and devotion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester “Les” Yakes; and grandson, Troy R. Humbird.

She is survived by her children; a son-in-law; daughter-in-law; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was laid to rest with her husband of 47 years at the Yachats Memorial Cemetery on Oct. 25, 2012. A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Mormon Church on Range Drive in Waldport. Family, friends and neighbors are welcome to attend.
