Buying local takes small shift in spending for big economic impact

County commissioners last week declared November as Buy Local Month. About 300 businesses belong to Buy Local Lincoln County and most offer discounts and other incentives to families and individuals who purchase a $25 yearly membership. A special $10-10 pass for out of area visitors just became availble and offers the same incentives as a regular membership. November is Lincoln County Buy Local Month

Want to be part of a $10 million local economic stimulus plan? Just spend an extra $44.57 a month at a Lincoln County business instead of buying online or driving to the Willamette Valley to shop.

If each of the county’s 19,000 families did that, it would put $10 million into the local economy annually: enough money to create or retain 120 jobs.
