Thomas William Howard, 77, of Depoe Bay, Ore., died of cancer on Oct. 8, 2012 in Newport, Ore.

He was born March 27, 1935 to James Martin Howard and Dorothy Barbara Bagnall Howard in Longview, Wash.

He graduated from Del Norte High in Crescent City, Calif., Oregon State University, Santa Rosa Junior College and San Francisco State College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.

He was married to Caroline Bateman from 1971 to 1996.

He owned and operated commercial F/V Privateer in the late 60s to late 80s in Newport and was employed in residential remodel and construction until retiring in the late 90s.

He enjoyed the past 11 years traveling between homes in Depoe Bay and Yuma, Ariz. with his sweet and loving partner, Beverly McCutcheon.

He was a member of the Newport Boosters and Elks, Olalla and Agate Beach Golf Clubs.

He was an avid golfer, billiards and card player, a great sportsman and a sports fan.

He is survived by his partner Beverly McCutcheon of Depoe Bay; stepson, Mark Ross of Newport; stepdaughter Tami Weissberg of Sitka, Alaska; siblings, Donald Howard of Ukiah, Calif. and Barbara Lampe of Afton, Wyo.; grandchildren, Kameron Ross of Redmond, Ore., Carson Ross of Newport, Dana Benton of Sitka, and Alex Weissberg of Sitka.

He will be buried at sea. Memorial donations may be made to the Newport Boosters Club.

Affordable Burial and Cremation is handling arrangements.
