Success on the Fly: Networking

Too many business professionals throw money into advertising when there is a more effective, and less expensive, way to increase their business.

Although your advertising and marketing may pique customer interest in your product or service, they don’t buy because of clever campaigns. They buy from people they know and trust.

Influential professionals know this and build rapport with clients and potential customers quickly. It isn’t like making a soufflé. It’s easy. You can improve your networking skills, and start increasing your business performance, today. And, by the way, many of the skills will help your personal relationships.

If you master these networking skills, you won’t need great selling skills. People will seek you out because they like you, respect you, and know you. And they know that you like, respect and know them, too.

Here are a few basics that will help you build rapport with your network:

• Dress to fit in with your peers and customers, but dress up slightly so they feel special.

• Get out of your comfort zone - circulate in groups, and meet new people.

• Listen, look for and find something fascinating about everyone you contact.

• Learn to initiate a handshake, which is the business version of interpersonal touch.

• Lavish appreciation on people - nobody feels over-appreciated for their efforts.

• Actually look at the business cards you get from other professionals.

• Improve your skills at introducing other professionals to one another.

• Show respect for other opinions, even if they conflict with yours.

• Mirror the level of intensity of others to really increase rapport.

• Increasing the effectiveness of your networking skills will make you more successful.
