Pinnipeds to get new perch

Visitors to Newport’s Bayfront watch the California sea lions at Port Dock 1 Thursday morning. Little remains of the original 120 feet of dock used by the sea lions, and local merchants feared losing an important tourist draw. This week, Port of Newport commissioners agreed to allow the installation of 80 feet of temporary docking. A close encounter with the sea lions on the Newport Bayfront is considered by many to be the quintessential coastal experience. And now the future of the sea lion docks at Port Dock 1 appears to be secure after port commissioners agreed this week to install 80 feet of temporary docking for the mammals.
