Dick Rickner

Richard “Dick” Rickner, 70, of Waldport, Ore. died July 21, 2012 in Newport, Ore.

He was born Nov. 30, 1941 to August and Olga Rickner in Columbus, Neb., and was raised on the plains of Nebraska. He was the youngest of three brothers.

He moved to Portland, Ore. in 1961 and graduated from Portland State University. He was employed as a computer technician and managed large mainframe IBM computers.

Dick married Judi Walker on Nov. 14, 1970. They resided in Tigard and Sherwood where, for many years, he raised Roller Pigeons. He also obtained an Oregon Real Estate Brokers License in the 1980s and worked for the Bill Snyder Company.

He traveled extensively around the world and lived a couple of years full time on the road in a motor home, traveling around the United States.

After retirement, Dick and Judi moved to Waldport, and they spent winters in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Dick was a watercolor artist but had also painted in acrylics. He had a lifelong interest in the outdoors, and he loved crabbing and fishing, which were reflected in his paintings. He was a member of the Yaquina Art Association. He leaves behind two gentle whippets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Olga Rickner; and brothers, Donald Rickner and Bill Rickner.

He is survived by his wife, Judi Rickner; sister-in-law, Jolene Berg; brother-in-law, Gene Berg; and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to either Lincoln County Animal Shelter or Oregon Humane Society.
