Dancing Moon Press announces that a book release party for Carla Perry’s new novel, “Riva Beside Me: New York City 1963-1966,” will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Cafe Mundo, 209 NW Coast St. in Newport.
The event begins with book signings and light snacks, followed by a reading at 6 p.m. and more mingling. Afterward, The June Rushing Band will perform.
The narrator of “Riva Beside Me” is Riva’s guardian angel, a wisecracking cynic who would rather be anywhere than imprisoned in Riva’s body. The place: New York City. The setting: an upper Eastside brownstone _ the home of Riva’s dysfunctional family, plus Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Harlem, and the rest of Manhattan. The time: Spring 1963. The narrator’s assignment: Whatever it takes to help Riva survive.
