Toledo to create space for pups on city-owned land

Toledo is going to the dogs, or rather for the dogs.

With representatives of the city’s canine constituency present, Toledo City Council members unanimously approved a motion authorizing staff to complete necessary improvements to develop a “bark park” on a four-acre parcel of city-owned land in the 500 block of East Slope Road.

The canine contingent featured six-month-old Milly, who belongs to Public Works Director Adam Denlinger and his wife, Teresa, and Abie (age 3-1/2) and Mallory (age 1-1/2), the fuzzy children of City Manager Michelle Amberg and her husband, Don, who is director of the Toledo Chamber of Commerce. The canines all sported signs urging a yes vote to establish the dog park, and they waited patiently as Denlinger outlined the plans prior to the council’s decision.

Council members had already approved $5,000 in the city budget to develop and build an off-leash dog park, which Denlinger said is “an accepted form of recreation in many communities” nationwide. They have, he added, become “an overwhelming success.”
