Local loggers take the field

Posted: Friday, Jul 25th, 2014

Cole Warfield works to set his choker in the kids choker setting race as part of last year’s Local Logging Show at the Toledo Summer Festival. Warfield won the kids event with a time of 38.68 seconds.

TOLEDO — At the Toledo Summer Festival, loggers will put the skills they use every day on display for the crowds as the Local Logging Show returns at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Brenda Warfield, of Warfield Limited, which organizes the competition, said the event has been running every year at the summer festival longer then she can remember.

“Since I was just a little girl, 30-plus years,” she said. “One of the things that make it a crowd favorite is the generations, it’s so heartwarming. What’s super great is back in the day, my dad and my uncles were the big shots. My brothers came in, and they became the big shots. Now their kids are competing in the kiddie race. That’s just awesome. You’ve got three generations, not just Warfields, but everybody. It’s been going on that long.”
