John Raymond Laufenberg

John was a devoted family man and was widely respected for his kind and gentle nature.
John Raymond Laufenberg, age 60 of Newport passed away at his home on January 5, 2014. John was born October 1, 1953 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to John Thomas and Marjorie (Huff) Laufenberg. John graduated from Richland Center High School in 1971and later married Karel Anne Laufenberg in Newport, Oregon. He traveled the west as a tree planter in the old hoe dad tradition, was a talented artist, and wood craftsman. His work is displayed at the Wood Gallery and many local homes. John lived most of his adult life in Roslyn, WA and Newport. He successfully owned and operated Laufenberg Construction for over 20 years, and achieved his dream of becoming a master builder where examples of his craftsmanship can be found locally. He was a devoted family man and was widely respected for his kind and gentle nature. He loved walking his dogs on the beach and was an amateur rock hound. John is preceded in death by his parents and brother Steven Laufenberg. He is survived by his wife Karel Laufenberg, sons Justin (Nikki) Mundt, Joaquin (Stephanie) Waldroop, daughter Nicole Cotto, grandchildren ; Tristan Mundt, Chloe Johnson, Grace Cotto, Jarrod and Aria Waldroop, Thomas, Tanner, and Keisha Goble, and brothers Tom , Rick, Terry, and Tim Laufenberg of Richland Center, Wisconsin. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Saturday January 11, 2014 at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Newport. Arrangements are entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home.
