Suzanne Aiken
Suzanne Aiken, 69, of Yachats, Ore., died Jan. 6, 2013.

She was born Dec. 3, 1943 to Harvey and Louise Raether in Eau Claire, Wis. She was the oldest of four daughters.

“Suzi” spent her childhood and early adult life in Fall Creek, Wis. and married Les Aiken of Fall Creek on Aug. 17, 1963. They had two daughters, Peggy (1964) and Kathleen (1966). Les, Suzi and the family later lived in Wadena, Minn.; Joliet, Ill., Jackson, Ohio and Terre Haute, Ind.

Suzanne was always “buttoned up and organized,” which suited her well for a variety of different financial clerk positions in a bank, a hospital, a college and her church. She loved to travel to see her daughters and their families. Gardening was also a gift of Suzanne’s – it was always a joy to have a tour of her gardens and landscaping. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, golfing and a good episode of Masterpiece Theater.

Les and Suzi retired to the Oregon coast in 2000 and built their retirement home in Yachats. Three years later, Suzy’s parents moved in, and the four of them loved taking “field trips” up and down the Oregon coast. Les died in 2004, and Harvey followed in 2006. Suzi and Louise continued to live together until their deaths.

Suzanne is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Roger) Martin of Forest City, Iowa and Kathleen (Paul) Rojas of Fritwell, England; sisters, Patti Ramstad (Ron Sheldon) of Roseburg, Jan (Gary) Nordin of Merrillan, Wis. and Cherie Brantner of Fall Creek, Wis; granddaughters, Sophie and Lauren; and five nieces and nephews.

Suzanne was cremated and her ashes are to be interred in her hometown of Fall Creek, Wis., next to Les. There are two services planned to honor the lives of Suzanne and Louise. The first will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport, with lunch to follow. Another service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, Wis., with lunch and inurnment at Trinity Cemetery to follow.

Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, Ore., and Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona, Wis. are handling arrangements.
