Vincent Shutt


Vincent Foster Shutt, 82, of Seal Rock, Ore., died of heart and lung conditions on July 18, 2012 at his home.

He was born April 3, 1930 to Doreen Foster Shutt and Vincent Shutt in Santa Monica, Calif. Vincent grew up in Santa Monica and graduated from Samohi Senior High School. He later served two years in the U.S. Army.

He married Jennifer Burnett in 1952 in Salinas, Calif. He helped manage his uncle’s cattle ranch in San Diego County, Calif. His son, Jeffery, was born in Berkeley, Calif., and Vince went back to college at San Luis Obispo, where he graduated with a B.S. in soil science.

He later married Beverly Ware on Aug. 27, 1972. He started work with Shell Chemical Company as an agricultural representative in St. Louis, Mo., Kansas City and then Fresno, Calif. He later worked for Rhodia in Boise, Idaho and Yakima, Wash. He retired and moved to Seal Rock.

Vincent was a member of the Agate Beach Golf Club. He enjoyed golf, beach walking, travel, hiking, fishing, camping, gardening and cooking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doreen and Vincent Shutt; and stepdaughter, Debbie Heffernan.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Seal Rock; son, Jeffery (Norma) Shutt of Mariposa, Calif.; sister, Kay Weber of Palos Verdes, Calif.; stepchildren, Michael Heffernan of Fulton, Texas and Patrick Heffernan of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

At Vincent’s request, no services will be held.

Bateman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
