Marie F. Leyh Evans

Marie F. Leyh Evans, 90, of Toledo, Ore., died June 22, 2012 in Newport, Ore.

She was born Sept. 11, 1921 to Frank and Suzanne (Gustin) Leyh in Spa, Belgium. Marie was in Europe until the end of World War II when she crossed the Atlantic on a Greek freighter. She arrived in New York and made her way to Long Beach, Calif., where she married Ervin “Glenn” Evans.

They spent most of their married life in southern California. Marie was the loving mother to six children and loved spending time playing with the kids on the sunny beaches in California. The family moved to Toledo in the 1980s. Marie worked as a registered nurse, but her real passion was painting. She was active in her church and valued her relationship with God.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ervin “Glenn” Evans; sons, Eric and Frank; brothers, Rene’ Leyh, Bernard Leyh and Francois Leyh; and grandson Mathiew Remacle.

She is survived by sons, Bruce Evans, Greg (Carrie) Evans, Scott (Angie) Evans; daughters, Geralyn (Daniel) Evans Remacle; siblings Ann Leyh, Albert (Myrian) Leyh, Colette Leyh, Genevieve Bonhomme Leyh, Madelien Leyh, John and Melina Leyh, Pierre (Susie) Leyh, Simone and Gaston Bedoret Leyh and Sussy (Roger) Delneuville Leyh; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 927 N. Coast Highway in Newport. Marie’s final resting place will be beside her husband Glenn at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
