Stella Eagleson

Stella Lee Eagleson, 83, of Eddyville, Ore., died June 7, 2012.

She was born Jan. 29, 1929, to Harrison and Gertrude Gilmore in Toledo, Ore. She was the seventh in a family of 11 children. She graduated as valediction of her class at Toledo High School. She then married Ralph Eagleson of Eddyville. They made their home in Eddyville and raised their four children on their farm there.

When their youngest child left for college, Stella began a 19-year career as a library aide at Eddyville School. Due to her outstanding volunteer work there after her retirement, the library was named the Stella Gilmore Eagleson Library.

Stella also enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Chile, Ecuador and Colombia in 1981 to meet a child they sponsored through World Vision and visit family friends there. She also visited many places in the United States with her husband, Ralph, for his U.S. Marine Corps reunions.

Stella was a member of Eddyville Community Church for 60 years and the local women’s club for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and emailing, and opened a Facebook page before any of her children did.

Stella was able to spend her last days surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Eagleson; brother, Harrison Gilmore; and sisters, Jackie Robeson and Myrtle Chavarria.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Eagleson of Eddyville; daughters, Mary Humphrey of Goldendale, Wash. and Julie Eagleson of Troutdale; son, Dan Eagleson of Keizer; siblings, Lewis Gilmore, Edna Harrington, Ada Loomis, Betty Smith, Trudy Cain, Elsie Gibson and Edson Gilmore; grandchildren, Staci Humphrey, Marisa Humphrey, Patricia Humphrey, Jessica Humphrey, Brad Eagleson and Megan Eagleson; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Eddyville Cemetery, followed by a get-together of family and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Eddyville Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to My Father’s House, a community shelter, at P.O. Box 1147, Gresham, OR 97030.

McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis is handing arrangements.
