Scott “Scottie” Porter, 86, of Newport, Ore., died Jan. 2, 2010.
He was born Sept. 23, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He moved to California with his family in the 1930s. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Manila under General MacArthur. He returned to California and completed his college education, earning a bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential.
He taught for the Los Angeles Unified School District and retired after 25 years. He married his wife, Georgianne, and moved to Newport, where he resided until his death.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks and a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles and American Legion.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Kerr; niece, Terry Eaton; great-niece, Heather Eaton; and great-great-nephew Jameson Cowie.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
