Taft’s track team grew significantly this season from last year, and as the season has progressed, the Tigers’ track team has grown in skill, as well.

“We started out with a track team almost twice the size as last season,” said Tigers head coach Tim Dressler. “A lot of new athletes, they weren’t really experienced in track. This season’s been a season where we have half a team that’s experienced and half isn’t.”

While the experience may be lacking, the talent is all there for the Tigers, who showed well in Newport. Joshua Wright won the boys 100 meters with a time of 11.89 seconds and took third in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.32 seconds.

In the longer races, Mason Aguirre took second in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:14.77 and posted a 4:44.65 in the 1500 meters, good for fifth place in a highly competitive race.
