Cub bats go quiet, fatal errors hurt in 7-3 loss

Cody Crawford and Cascade were good enough that they didn't need Newport's assistance in acquiring the Oregon West Conference opener at Frank Wade Park.

However, that's exactly what the Cubs supplied the Cougars and their right-handed ace with: three errors, four unearned runs and five games' worth of backwards strikeouts in a 7-3 loss.
