Ten players back for Bittick who want to run

Brutally tough leagues with towering posts that can tyrannize inside and totally destroy a team are nothing new to the Waldport boys’ basketball team.

The Irish (8-15, 4-14) took their lumps in the PacWest last year, getting regularly blown out in the first half of league play but showing signs of accelerated development in the final two weeks, nearly upsetting Pleasant Hill, Creswell and Salem Academy.

Waldport hopes that end-of-season impetus can translate into the trying 2A Tri-River Conference that’s comprised of the defending state champion East Linn Christian Academy and state runner-up Western Mennonite. They might not have the 6’4” or 6’5” trees walking around like some of the TRC’s best teams, but the Irish are well heeled with heaps of track speed, big-game seasoning and salaciousness in the paint that helps defuse opponents with five inches on them.
