NHS Blue-White scrimmage scheduled
Newport High School’s Blue-White basketball scrimmage starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Spangler Court.
Admission is $2. The freshmen boys start the evening with one quarter of action, followed by one quarter for the junior varsity (JV) girls, one quarter for the JV boys, and two each for the varsity girls and varsity boys.

Youth basketball clinic set at Taft
Taft High School girls’ basketball Coach Gene Skoglund and Assistant Coach Kyle Buse are holding a youth clinic for boys and girls at the high school gym Saturday.
Participants in grades one through four have camp from 9 a.m. to noon, while those in grades five through eight are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost is $15 for the first-fourth camp, and $20 for the fifth-eighth camp. A $5 discount will be available for the second child or more from the same family. Cost of the camp includes a T-shirt.
Skoglund said fifth through eighth graders will play during halftime at some Taft games during the Tigers’ season.

Junior league b-ball signups begin
Toledo Junior League Basketball signups are from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Toledo Elementary School.
The league is for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8.

Running series starts Saturday
A winter cross country running series starts Saturday in South Beach.
Cost is $15 per race, or $30 for the series, which includes runs on Saturday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 16. Cost includes a T-shirt, pizza, a single club membership to the Coast Hill Running Club, and eligibility for series awards at the end. All money put back into the event is used to fund kids running programs.
Runners and walkers are all encouraged to participate.
The first race is four miles, and covers Cooper Ridge Trail and beach. The event starts at 10 a.m. Participants should go to South Beach State Park Day Use Area.
The December race is at Cape Perpetua and covers 6.2 miles. The January race is at Big Creek Park.

Shrine Club hosting Donkey Basketball
The Lincoln County Shrine Club is presenting Donkey Basketball at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newport High School.
Doors open at 1 p.m. Admission is $6. For children less than 3 years of age, admission is free.
