Fly fishers to talk about restoration
The Central Coast Fly Fishers meet at the Bayshore Beach Club in Waldport at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
A district fisheries biologist with the USDA Forest Service in Waldport, Jack Sleep, is presenting the program: “Habitat Restoration To Improve Local Fishing.”

Wrestling club begins registering soon
Sign-ups for the Newport mat club are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Newport High School wrestling room.
The fee is $50. Participants are asked to bring outgrown equipment for a gear exchange.
Practices begin the following week and are Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays. Practice for 6 to 9 years olds is from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and for 10 to 14 year olds, it is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Teen strength/cardio class starts Tuesday
Shannon Rackowski is teaching a teen strength/cardio training class at the Newport Recreation Center beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The class is from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and ends Nov. 17.
Cost is $25. Parental registration is required to register. The class is geared for young teens, ages 12 to 14. Students are taught proper body form, breathing, safety, and gym etiquette. With completion and passing of the course, participants are given a certificate that entitles them to use the gym and cardio areas without parental supervision.

Youth basketball registration open
Registration is now open for Newport 7th and 8th grade basketball. The fee is $50, and first practice is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Newport Intermediate School.
Registration is also open for 1st through 6th grade basketball. The fee is $50, with a mandatory skills assessment on Saturday, Nov. 21. All participants must register by then.
Those interested in either league should register at the Newport Recreation Center.

League needs new organizer
Toledo Junior League Basketball is looking for someone to take over the organization of the league. The league starts soon. A jamboree for the 7th and 8th grades is being planned for Nov. 15.

The league is for 3rd through 8th grade boys and girls in Toledo. It has been running for more than 10 years.
The 3rd and 4th graders are mixed, boys and girls, and the rest of the grade levels have separate gender teams.
Toledo plays Siletz, Eddyville Newport, and for the middle school kids Lincoln City and Waldport.
