NEWPORT — The maximum wind gust hit 57.3 mph early Saturday morning with the top sustained speed at nearly 29 mph, weather data showed.
The 57.3 mph wind gust was recorded at 2:30 a.m., according to data from the Hatfield Marine Science Center in South Beach. Meanwhile, the maximum sustained speed of 28.9 mph was posted about 3:50 a.m. Saturday.
The Newport area has also received slightly more than one-half inch of rain since midnight.
A high wind warning is in effect for the area until 10 p.m. Saturday, while a high-surf advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday.For the complete article see the 01-15-2014 issue.
