Lincoln County Clerk Dana Jenkins announced Friday that John Robinson had received 76 write-in votes for Siletz mayor and Alma Baxter received 120 for an open seat on the Toledo city council.
Incumbent Siletz Mayor Leslie Button chose not to run for reelection and no one filed to appear on the Nov.6 ballot. Similarly in Toledo, only two candidates filed for three open council seats.
Under state election laws, the person who received the most write-in votes wins the position as long as they meet the residency requirements of the cities’ charters.
Button, the current Siletz mayor, received 41 write-in votes even though she chose not to run. Robinson could not be reached for comment about the election results.
Baxter, Toledo branch manager for Bank of the West launched a word-of-mouth campaign this fall. Toledo resident Ed Johnston also conducted a write in campaign for a council seat. After Baxter, former Toledo mayor Rod Cross , who was not campaigning, received eight votes.
