1) WHAT IS ZUMBA?

      Zumba Fitness is the Latin-inspired dance fitness program that blends international music and makes for one big "FITNESS PARTY!" that anyone can do and believe me....it's very addictive! :) In my Zumba class I mix up the music- so not only do we do some Latin numbers- we also do "African," "Hip-Hop," "Belly," "Swing," "Disco," "Country" and so on. As well, to keep the classes fresh and new, I choreograph the majority all of our dances. Never a dull moment!

 

2) DO I NEED ANY FORMER DANCE EXPERIENCE TO TAKE ZUMBA???

      Absolutely not. One of the great things about Zumba is that you can exercise at your own pace - it allows for people of all fitness levels to work at a rate that gives them their best workout. Typical Zumba classes do not break down or count out steps. I personally believe it is important to do so - I want each of my students to not only burn calories--but to also understand what parts of the body they are working and how to be sure to avoid injury. It's one of the values that I like to provide for my class participants and something that sets my Zumba classes apart from may of the other classes offered. Another important thing about Zumba classes is that the primary goal is to get the level of exercise you feel good about while having fun doing so - and we do our best to always keep with that in mind.

 

3) WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS?

     Wear clothing that you are comfortable exercising in - a cozy pair of tennis shoes!!!! If you decide that Zumba is your thing---I highly recommend investing in a pair of "split sole jazz sneakers".Happy Feet Make Happy Zumba people!!! Also bring water and a towel..because along with laughing and learning----we SWEAT!!!!! And of course...Don't forget your smile.

 

4) HOW MANY CALORIES CAN I BURN IN A ONE HOUR ZUMBA CLASS???

     Anywhere from 700-1100 calories per class!!!! NOT KIDDING!!! Some of my students wear pedometers during class to track calories burned---It's truly the "exercise in disguise!" You will burn as much as you put into the class--I always remind my people to "Make it count!"

 

5) WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AS A ZUMBA INSTRUCTOR?

     In order to teach sanctioned Zumba classes instructors are required to be certified by Zumba trainers. There are several types of Zumba as well - I am certified to teach "ZUMBA GOLD" (for the active older adult) "Zumba" "Zumba Toning" Zumba in the Circuit" and will soon be certifying later this month in "Aqua Zumba"!!! For Aqua Zumba, I will be taking Zumba into the swim pools for those that prefer the atmosphere of the pool or have physical limitations that are better accommodated for with the low impact of exercise in water. :)

     In addition to my Zumba training and certifications, I have been a dance instructor for 21 years and have participated in formal dance my entire life. Teaching is my passion---teaching so that all of my students really understand HOW to dance - I truly care about my students as people and love riding along on their journey of self improvement---seeing the kind of healthy changes they are able to experience over weeks and months...the weight loss-the confidence-watching friendships being made-and talk about a support network! We all cheer and praise one another on achievements made! And I truly love what I do-and that may just be my single biggest qualification.
