Myers takes over as Facets ownerPosted: Wednesday, Aug 24th, 2011Owner Richard Petrovic has moved on to retirement in Idaho, and Kay Myers, the former manager and Petrovic’s long-time partner, has taken over the business, keeping it locally owned and operated. Her 40-plus years of experience with rocks and gems - gleaned from a lifetime of involvement in the field of gem collecting, cutting, and affiliations with various industry organizations throughout the nation - make her well-qualified to continue providing quality jewelry repair, merchandise and service. Myers began her interest in gems and minerals as a child, a fascination that led to her long-time partnership with Petrovic in Facets. She met Petrovic in a gem and mineral class in 1979, and during the 30-plus years since, they had actively mined and collected gems and minerals in six different states. Petrovic’s interest in lapidary also began when he was a youngster. He started a career in jewelry after finishing a tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s. Working with various retail jewelers, he continued his education with the Gemological Institute of America in California, where his courses included colored stones and diamonds. He operated as an independent jewelry appraiser since 1972. The Gemological Institute of America, the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies have all recognized Petrovic for his contributions in supporting the ongoing educational experience of a lapidary hobby. He also taught many people within the industry, as well as in Newport through the Oregon Coast Community College. For the complete article see the 08-24-2011 issue.
